What is Try Teaching?
Try Teaching is an innovative program that offers professionals a chance
to investigate a career in the classroom before making a career change. Participants
will have the opportunity to discover the rewards and challenges of teaching
firsthand in a public school classroom for one or two weeks during September.
What are the benefits of Try Teaching?
Participants will be matched with master teachers in local schools and will
spend two weeks in the classroom, gaining first-hand experiences and an up-close
look at the teaching field. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare
lessons, teach students, and observe effective educational practices. Each participant
will be mentored by a university teacher-educator in order to learn about entering
the education profession.
Program requirements:
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 3.0 overall or 3.0 in
the last 60 credit hours.
- The flexibility to take a ONE OR TWO week leave from current job during
September.
- A state/federal background check will be conducted for those selected as
Try Teaching participants in order to fulfill requirements of Kentucky
school districts.
We are taking applications for the 2009
cohort!!
Applications will be accepted until Monday, June 15.
